Godly Play is a multi-sensory, liturgy based Montessori concept classroom where storytelling and wondering help the children make the many stories of the Bible "their own." Children respond using wooden story pieces, art materials, clay, etc. Throughout the year they hear stories from both the Old and New Testament, stories about Liturgy, and Parables. Great emphasis is placed on structure and order in the classroom, including "getting ready" on their own, which translates into a more referent experience in the sanctuary.
The goal of Godly Play is to teach children the art of using religious language-parables, sacred stories, silence, and liturgical action to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God's presence in their lives. Although many stories will be told to all Godly Play age groups, some changes are made to challenge the older school age children. Great care is taken to make Godly Play worship center a place where the children's ideas, opinions, and gifts are respected.
