Blessing of the Families
“Kirkin’ of the Tartan”

When:          Sunday,  November 21
                      8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

What do I need to bring:
An item (or picture) of an important family symbol — and a friend!

This will be a time to reconnect, give thanks to God, and pray for all our families.

St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland. As such, there are a number of traditions that are associated with
St. Andrew drawn from Scotland’s rich history and culture.

One you may have heard of is the “Kirkin’ of the Tartan”.  Kirkin’ means “churching” or “blessing” and the tartan is the multicolored, patterned cloth
representing a particular Scottish clan (family). We will adapt this tradition to our context as we celebrate  — “A Blessing of the Families”.

At both services on Sunday, November 21, we will bless our families.  You are invited to bring something that is of special importance to your family — a special symbol (it can be a picture of that symbol as well).  Each family may
appoint a representative to join the procession to present their symbol during the service—families of one as well! We will offer special prayers for all our people and our families for a safe, healthy, loving year.

At our 10:30 a.m. service we will be joined by  Pipemajor Gus Person who will bring the sounds of the bagpipes to our celebration. Between the services, there will be a time of fellowship.
